Fans of the National Dachshund Races mark your calendars! Labor day weekend. Aug.29, 2008 - Monday Sept. 1,2008. We are looking forward to building on our successes and learning from your input in order to constantly improve upon this event that has been noted in magazines and websites across the nation. The races draw folks from all across the country and last year even had at least one visitor from Australia. We are proud to be part of the Berea Oktoberfest.

Please go to www.bereaoktoberfest.com to learn more about this event. Many Local people have already signed up to come to Berea. Now we need YOUR HELP!

We are in need of SPONSORS and as we have moved from our previous location in Findlay, we know there are many that still wish to help support us and what we are able to accomplish each year as far as donations to charity.

If you have an interest in becoming a sponsor, please view our SPONSORSHIP PLEA and if you have any questions, just contact me, Toni Gossard and I will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Where Have All Our Dachshunds Gone Ask Our Friends In Findlay?

The search was on! First they asked little Billy and Sarah and the response was -- What will our summer be like without wieners? Then we went to our resident expert in finding, caring for and just a general know-it-all about our fine four legged friends (Toni Gossard who we honestly can say is an expert when it comes to anything Dachshund) and she explained it to us.

Honestly Toni says, I love Findlay and am still a part of supporting our K-9's here but since we changed webmasters last year which dramatically increased interest and attendance at our event and honed our event to really be the "KING of National Dachshund Races", we simply outgrew our facility here and had some hard choices to make.

I certainly do not want to alienate our fine friends here like Hochstettler's Old Mill located at 428 West Main Street and others as they have been very good to us. But there is one thing many of you simply may not have known. For years I also was in charge and handled the Dachshund Races at the Berea Oktoberfest. The Champion of that event would in turn race our Champion for a "Champion of Champions" if you will. "The King of Racing Dachshunds'". Others that know me well are also aware that there are many Dachshund events around the country.

Safety Is Our Number 1 Concern - ALWAYS!

We have always prided ourselves on strict rules and enforcement. That is what sets us apart from these other events. Many race their companions far to long as a Dachshund is really not built to sustain a "Full Speed Run" for any length of time due to their long spine. They can become injured quite easily and other races we have seen race on surfaces that make it to hard for a Dachshund to keep sturdy footing and they can and do fall. I do not condone or support any of these races and just wish they would all adopt our standards even though they may not be quite as exciting (though we do promise a GREAT TIME), but the safety of our companions is at stake and for anyone that may think otherwise, maybe they should not own a Dachshund!

I have always strongly opposed these other events and the AKC has recognized us for our efforts. The move to Berea is simply what it is. By combining both events and making them over the same time frame, we can draw thousands of people and hundreds of dogs and have the races come off extremely well organized, efficient and SAFE! Plus for our guests, many attractions can be found in and around the Berea area that are much easier to get to than in Findlay.

I will always be there when Findlay needs me and this I promise! If you recall last years devastating flooding and it happening so close to race time, we were still able to organize through the help of IAM's and our dear friends in Findlay, a Dog and Cat food drive and made certain those that needed it, received it. Please consider remaining a sponsor of this event and do not look at it as a loss for Findlay as our roots remain here and always will, but consider this an opportunity for us to raise many additional funds for the fine charities we strongly support and this can now all be done in one weekend. If you need me, you know how to find me and all questions I take very seriously! So if you have one please just ask and for Billy and Sarah, there is the Hotdog and Hamburger to fall back on and you can always come up to Berea and enjoy all that fantastic German Cuisine and other fine events!
